5 affordable creative things to do in Ericeira

Simple, playful and budget-friendly creative activities in Ericeira, from sand sculpture and photo safaris to watercolor workshops.

5 affordable creative things to do in Ericeira

Ericeira, this little paradise for fishers and surfers, is full of inspiration for creative souls. You do not need to spend a fortune to have fun, dream a little, or create unique memories. Here are five simple, playful and affordable ideas to add a touch of art to your stay, or to your everyday life if you are lucky enough to live here.

1. Sculpt sand like an ephemeral artist

Where? Praia do Sul, or any other beach in Ericeira.

Why? Because sand is the most accessible canvas in the world. Let your imagination take over: a castle, a boat, a dog, or even a little cartoon creature. The wind and the waves will do the rest, or erase everything in a blink.

Pay attention to the tide. Check the schedule before you start if you do not want your masterpiece to disappear too quickly.

WaterLili tip: Bring a small bucket and shovel, or simply use your hands. Do not forget your camera so you can keep a memory before your sculpture returns to the ocean.

2. Go on a photo safari through the village

Where? In the narrow streets, around the harbor, or even on the beach.

Why? Ericeira is a perfect playground for beginner photographers. Seagulls, lazy cats, fishers’ dogs, colorful doors, tiled walls, wooden sardines in souvenir shops… Everything can become a reason to capture local life.

Try giving yourself a creative challenge:

  • Only blue: photograph every shade of blue in the village: doors, boats, sky, ocean.
  • Textures: look for peeling walls, fishing nets, shells, stones, tiles and wood.

Share your photos with the hashtag #CreativeEriceira. Who knows, maybe your eye will be noticed.

3. Sketch the colorful streets, even if you cannot draw

Where? Anywhere in the historic center, with its blue and white facades and small village details.

Why? A notebook, a pencil, and there you go: you leave with a unique handmade souvenir. You do not need to be a professional. The important thing is to play.

If you want a little support, Petit Toucan sometimes organizes sketching sessions on Saturday mornings, which can be a lovely way to learn in a group.

WaterLili tip: Start with simple shapes: a window, a boat, a wave. Add details little by little. And if you want to go further, you can join my watercolor workshop in Ericeira to add color to your drawings.

4. Paint outside after surf, or after a walk

Where? On the beach, in a park, or even on a café terrace.

Why? There is nothing more inspiring than Ericeira’s energy after a surf session, a walk, or a long lunch. Organize a small painting session with friends: everyone brings some materials, or shares what they have, and you all paint the same view in your own way.

WaterLili tip: If you prefer a more guided setting, we can create together a personalised watercolor outside session with your group, perfect for discovering watercolor in a relaxed atmosphere.

5. Treat yourself to a creative workshop

Where? In the friendly, relaxed and creative atmosphere of JBay Collective.

Why? A creative workshop is the perfect activity to pause, observe the landscape, and leave with something unique made by your own hands. Depending on the date, you can explore watercolor, dreamcatcher making, kintsugi-inspired repair, or another gentle handmade activity.

WaterLili tip: My workshops are designed so everyone can enjoy the moment, even complete beginners. We explore color, texture, slow making, and inspiration from the ocean, cliffs and streets of Ericeira.

So… Which activity will you try first?

Ericeira is a blank canvas: whether you choose to sculpt, photograph, draw, paint or simply observe, the most important thing is to enjoy yourself.

One small piece of advice: always carry a notebook or a camera. You never know when inspiration will arrive.
